Charges
Charge (Electric Charge)
Charge is a basic property of matter due to which objects experience electrical force. It is responsible for attraction and repulsion between objects.
Types of Charges
1️⃣ Positive Charge (+)
-
A body has positive charge when it loses electrons.
-
Example: A glass rod rubbed with silk becomes positively charged.
2️⃣ Negative Charge (−)
-
A body has negative charge when it gains electrons.
-
Example: A plastic rod rubbed with wool becomes negatively charged.
Important Rules
-
Like charges repel each other ( + with + or − with − ).
-
Unlike charges attract each other ( + with − ).
Additional Points
-
The SI unit of charge is Coulomb (C).
-
Charge is carried by particles like:
-
Electron (− charge)
-
Proton (+ charge)
